Make the Internet work for you!
Does this scenario sound familiar?
You pay an Internet design agency a small fortune to develop your corporate web site expecting it to be a life-changing experience -
you wait for the orders and enquiries to come pouring in...
and... nothing happens!
Unfortunately, this is the way that many companies experience life on the Internet.
Yet there are some simple remedies which can easily make all the difference.

We bought this book back in 1999, implemented a fair proportion of what it said and have enjoyed top ten listings on many search engines for our Orbit Research Ltd business web site ever since. We regularly receive orders from all over the world as a result.
Interestingly, the book gets mixed reviews at Amazon - which goes to prove another observation we have made over the years - that even many web design companies just don't understand some basic rules on the Internet.

| ibby.net Top 10 rules for Internet Success... |
- Put yourself in the position of the visitor. They have the ultimate say in whether or not they are going to stay at your site. They only have to hit the 'back' button!
- Visitors generally search by typing in a short phrase (2 or 3 words) describing the product, service or information they are looking for. It is essential to match this behaviour in the design of your web site.
- Ensure that your key search phrases are prominent in the <Title> tag of your web page. If you don't implement any other rule - make sure that you implement this one! It is the single most important rule in web design!
- Design your web site to encourage the visitor to contact you (if you are selling something). Give them appropriate opportunities in the right places!
- Don't use 'Flash' animation on any page that you wish to be found by a search engine. Search engines can only read real words.
- Don't use frames - except for special effect on unimportant pages. They confuse search engines. They also prevent rule 3 above from working! Web pages using frames almost never achieve top 10 listing for any subject.
- Don't use a welcome page that has a single link to the main home page. Many search engines penalise web sites designed like this! (And it annoys visitors - another click to make, more time to waste.)
- Get your Internet Service Provider to keep web logs for you. Make sure that they include 'referer logs' - and learn how to read them (or get someone to do it for you). Don't just rely on web statistic software - much of the important information is lost!
- Act on the feedback from the web logs. Update your web site to maximise your potential.
- Keep your design up-to-date. Try not to have any errors on your site.
